Next Race Saturday Night June 3rd Kids Candy Dash Night |
Some of the biggest name driver's in dirt track racing are set to appear at the high banks of Spoon River Speedway this Sunday Night May 14th competing for $5000 to Win the 40 lap main event. National Champion Bobby Pierce, Jason Feger, Dennis Erb Jr, Ryan Unzicker, Kevin Weaver, both Gardners (Bob and John), Billy Moyer Jr, Tanner English, Gordy Gundaker, Jose Parga and many more are expected. Sunday will cap off a three track weekend that starts at Farmer City on Thursday and ends at Spoon on Sunday with Fairbury inbetween. Also on hand will be the UMP Modifieds running for $1000 to win both Saturday and Sunday nights at Spoon. If a driver can win both nights at Spoon they will collect a bonus check of $500. The UMP Hornets will fill out the card on Sunday Night. Check Spoon's face book page for updates.
Creve Coeur driver Mike Chasteen, Jr. grabbed the lead away from Zac Oedewaldt early in Saturday night’s Zane’s Auto Service UMP Modified Feature at Spoon River Speedway and then held off a hard-charging deep, talented field to take the win on the track’s second night of racing in 2017.
And it was a victory he did not take lightly.
“It is always a huge deal to come here and win at this great track and be able to beat who we did, lots of great cars” the younger Chasteen said in Perkins Seed House Victory Lane as his father, a guy who certainly knows his way around the legendary high-banked oval, proudly celebrated with him. Chasteen, Jr. used a low and middle line for most of the race, instead of his familiar location right around the top of the track, and made it work on a night where the track developed some extremely rare ruts in it’s normal silky smooth surface. Chasteen had no complaints.
Spoon River Speedway is set to open it’s doors for the 34th year this Saturday Night April 22nd. Twenty eight events are scheduled this year featuring the Zane’s Automotive UMP Modifieds, the Perkins Seed House UMP Pro Late Models, the Monical’s Pizza USAC/IMRA Speed 2 Midgets (14 events), the Farmington Locker UMP Hornets, the Fulton Farm Service E-Mods and the Spoon 6-Shooters. Special events will include the MARS/ALMS Super Late Models on Sunday May 14th, the 4th running of the Gary Cook Jr Memorial on Sunday May 28th, the UMP Hell Tour Summer Nationals on Thursday June 22nd, The MSSC Street Stocks return on Sunday July 16th, the Lucas Oil POWRI WAR NON-Wing Sprint Cars on Saturday July 22nd, the 27th running of the UMP Modified
We are proud to once again have Monical's Pizza on board for the 2017 season. This year Monical's will be the Sponsor of the USAC/IMRA Speed 2 Midgets at Spoon. We also welcome back Zane's Automotive Service sponsoring the UMP Modifieds, Perkin's Seed House as sponsor of the UMP Pro Late Models, The Farmington Locker sponsoring the UMP Hornets, The Fulton County Farm Service sponsoring the E-Mods. We still have the 6-Shooter division open for sponsorship. There will be a point fund in all divisions paying out to the top 10 that race in 75% of their scheduled races at Spoon. The UMP Modifieds, UMP Pro L/M and USAC/IMRA Midgets will be guaranteed a $700, $500, $300 payout to the top 3. E-Mods will be $500, $300, $200 and UMP Hornets will be $300, $200, $150. Each Driver's pit pass will be $35 (Specials maybe different and will be announced) and $5 will go into that divisions point fund. On top of what is guaranteed 1st gets 14%, 2nd 10%, 3rd 7% then 4th gets 15%, 5th 13%, 6th 11%, 7th 9%, 8th 8%, 9th 7% and 10th 6%. This should end up with a nice point fund at the end of the year. The more cars you can bring on race night in your division the bigger your point fund will be at the end of the year.
Stay tuned for more announcements

We just received a letter from UMP stating: *Participation in a DIRTcar sanctioned division in 2017 will require a license. NO EXCEPTIONS. *Divisions that do not have 100% membership will lose the sanction. *A one-week temporary (for the traveler) will be accepted provided the driver completes the full application. (Temp one week memberships do not qualify for Insurance and Appeal benefits) *There is not a calendar date deadline. It is absolute and immediate.
...With this being said Spoon will comply 100% with this statement.
On Saturday Feb 11th from 12 to 2 at the VFW in Canton, for ONE DAY ONLY we will be giving any UMP Driver or crew member a $15 discount on your UMP license.
I believe it's worth it to buy one even if your not in a UMP sanction class for the extra $50,000 in insurance money.
Hope to see you tomorrow at the VFW in Canton.
Please share so all can see.
Thank You SRS Promoter Brad Denney
