The Gary Cook Jr Memorial Sunday Night May 26th Featuring the DirtCar Modifieds running for $2564 to win in their 30 lap main event. The BIG 10 Super Late Models will make their first of three visits to the Spoon that night running for $2000 to win in their 25 lap main event. Also on hand will be the Fulton Farm Service USAC/IMRA SpeeD2 Midgets running for $400 to win, the DirtCar Pro Late Models and the Bartonville Express Lube DirtCar Hornets which will be running for $200 to win the feature event. E-Mod that wish to run with the Modifieds will receive 50 track points.

A huge field of 108 cars filled the pits at Spoon River Speedway Saturday night for the inaugural Greg Gilmore Memorial. Greg Gilmore raced at Spoon River Speedway in Modified and E-Mod Classes for many years, and passed away unexpectedly this past winter. Gilmore’s family and friends, in conjunction with Spoon River Speedway, put together several special events and purse bonuses, along with presentations of Gilmore Memorial Trophies to the winners in the two different Modified classes Saturday.

This Saturday night the Gilmore family, friends and Spoon River Speedway will honor Greg who we lost suddenly earlier this year. Greg raced at Spoon for 11 years in both the E-Mod and Modified divisions. Greg was Season champion in the E-Mods in 1998 and 99. Through the help of his family and sponsors the Dirtcar Modifieds will run for $1569 to win and $150 to start. The E-Mods will compete for $500 to win and $60 to start. Full Modified purse listed below. Also on hand will be the Dirtcar Pro Late Models, the USAC/IMRA SpeeD2 Midgets and the Dirtcar Hornets running for $200 to win. Bicycle races for kids 12 and under at intermission.

Full House At The Spoon

Spoon River Speedway opened its gates for the 36th season opener Saturday night. An outstanding 139 cars come through the back gate filling the pits to capacity. As the gates opened at two a steady line of haulers would continue to line up to enter. At one time cars and haulers were lined up all the way down to the highway. “We haven’t seen this since the 80’s” said Track Promoter Brad Denney. “This is going to be our biggest opening night ever.” On the night before Easter Sunday the huge crowd got to see three and four wide racing in all six divisions all night long. Before the races began Denney had scattered one thousand Easter eggs around the grandstand area for the kids to find. “I try and get the kids involved as much as I can throughout the race season. They are the future of dirt track racing” Denney commented.

36th Season Opener this Saturday Night April 20th. Lucas Oil POWRI War Sprint Cars running for $2000 to win, DirtCar Modifieds running for $1000 to win, USAC/IMRA SpeeD2 Midgets running for $420 to win, DirtCar Pro L/M running for $500 and DirtCar Hornets runing for $200 to win.
We will have a Easter egg hunt for kids 10 and under that are accompanied by a paying adult around 5 by main concession stand.

Exciting Races on Tap in 2019 At the Spoon

Spoon will open its doors for the 36th year running five divisions of cars. Returning will be the Dirtcar Modifieds, the Dirtcar Pro Late Models, the USAC/IMRA SpeeD2 Midgets, the E-Mods and the Dirtcar Hornets.

Spoon River Speedway will host some exciting races in 2019 beginning on opening night April 20th when the POWRI WARS Sprint Series will invade the track in the first of two visits in 2019. Spoon will also be running its five weekly divisions also that night along with a Easter egg hunt for the kids.  The Wars Series will return on June 29th.

The MOWA 410 Sprint Car Series will also visit the Spoon two times in 2019. The first visit will be on June 8th and they will return on Sept 7th at the Tom Knowles Memorial.

The Super Late Models will make three appearances in 2019. The Big 10 Late Model Series will appear on May 26th   and at the Fall Nationals on Sept 1st, and the Supers will return for the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour on June 20th   

The Dirtcar Modifieds will be the show case class at the Gary Cook Jr Memorial on May 26th, the Bill Anderson Memorial on June 15th and the Modified Fall Nationals on Sept 1st.

The 3rd Aaron Hull Memorial will be held on Sept 1st in conjunction with the Tom Knowles for the exciting SpeeD2 Midgets. The thrilling POWRI National Midget series will also be on hand that night.

The season will end in Oct when Spoon will hold the 2nd Monster Mash-A-Mania for the Hornets, E-Mods and Midgets. All three classes will be running for $2500 to win. The Hornets will run 100 laps, E-Mods and Midgets will run 50 laps at the end of this two day event.

Through the year there will be special races like the bump and run, the midget challenge and the Spoon King of the High Banks. There will also be activities for the kids throughout the year like bicycle races, Candy Dashes, Kids Back Pack night and Kids Box car races.

Point Fund Vote

Sunday Jan 20th from 12 to 2 you can pick up the 2019 rules, schedule, get your pit stall and register your car for the 2019 season. We will also be taking a vote for the drivers to see if they wish to pay $5 extra a night to have a point fund in 2019. This would payout the top 5 in your division and money that driver's pay stay within their own division. Otherwise there will be NO Point Fund.
