Spoon River/Standridge Memorial Makeup Await MOWA This Weekend!

(Bill W) May 29, 2013 – Mother Nature has been a fickle mistress this year, as the Midwest Open Wheel Association again tries to kick into gear this week after a pair of rainouts over Memorial Day weekend. Events were dashed in Pevely, Missouri and Quincy, Illinois. On Saturday, June 1, the series will head to the Spoon River Speedway south of Canton, Illinois. It will also be their second attempt to run on that high banked 3/8-mile oval in 2013. Sunday night, June 2, the series makes up the postponed Mary Lee Standridge Memorial at the Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois.

The MOWA series was supposed to run at the high-speed Spoon River Speedway on Saturday, May 4, before that event was washed away by rain as well. Brown has also claimed a MOWA win at “The Spoon”, but Hull has to be the favorite. He’s picked up the last two “Tom Knowles Memorial” wins there in the popular annual September meeting on the high banks.

Brian Brown won last year’s Mary Lee Standridge Memorial event. As usual, the winner will be a mystery at the banked ¼-mile oval in Jacksonville. The series has seen seven different winners in eight trips to Jacksonville the past three years. Only Jimmy Hurley has been a repeat winner in Jacksonville. Joining Brown as other winners there are Terry McCarl, Jerrod Hull, Danny Smith, AJ Bruns and Joey Moughan.

In addition to FREE admission for kids under 12, there will be $500 in quarters up for grabs as part of the “Kid’s Dash for Cash” at Jacksonville!

AJ Bruns added to his point lead at the series’ last event at Montgomery Motorsports Park in New Florence, Missouri on Saturday, May 18. Paul Nienhiser’s impressive early season continues as he enters this weekend second in the standings, ahead of Jerrod Hull, Jimmy Hurley and Ben Wagoner.

Pit gates open at Spoon River Speedway Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand open at 5 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 p.m. General admission seats are $20, with kids 6 through 10 priced at $5. Children under six are FREE. For more information, visit www.SpoonRiverSpeedway.com!

Hot laps are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Jacksonville, with racing slated for 5:00 p.m. Admission is $20, with children 12 and under FREE! For more information, visit www.JacksonvilleSpeedway.com!
