Weekly Racing Postponed at Spoon River Speedway; Barden steps way from Promoter's Role
(Canton, IL) With deep sadness, Spoon River Speedway has announced the temporary suspension of all weekly racing events scheduled for 2024. Promoter Cloyd Barden has shared that he has recently been diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Disease and has made the decision to step away from operating Spoon River Speedway.
“We are saddened by Cloyd’s recent diagnosis. Please keep Cloyd and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he navigates through this next chapter”, said Brad Denney. All weekly racing events scheduled at Spoon River Speedway have been cancelled until further notice.
Effective immediately, Morey and Brad Denney will overtake management roles for the facility. “Morey is still recovering from injuries sustained during an accident in early May and we are thankful for the support and many well wishes received. Prior commitments will keep me away from the Speedway for weekly events so our plan right now is to operate for specials only," said Brad Denney.
Upcoming events for Spoon River Speedway include a two-day stop with the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets on Friday July 19 – 20. The MOWA Sprint Car Series will join on Saturday for the “Tom Knowles Memorial”. The World of Outlaws CASE Late Models will make their first-ever appearance to the 3/8-mile on August 15 and the 34th Annual Plow Boy Nationals will be held on September 1 headlined by the MARS Racing Series Modifieds and Late Models. Support Classes and purses for these events are to be announced.
With the unfortunate circumstances, any person(s) or group interested in purchasing the facility can message Brad Denney for more information.
